Workbrain in IE 8 and now 9

Infor is diligently working on the next big Workbrain release that will address many rendering issues seen in the Internet Explorer 8 and now Internet Explorer 9. Many enterprise customers using Workbrain (4.1 or 5.0) haven't switched from Internet Explorer 6. Just see this article: Old and Insecure, IE6 Still Popular in the Enterprise. Nine years after the IE6 release, many customers are ready to move forward.

How then can Workbrain users have their cake and eat it too? Luckily, Microsoft provided "compatibility view" in IE8 and IE9. This can be enabled by the user in the web browser on a site by site basis, but this may cause confusion for many users. Those in charge of Workbrain deployment at their company would rather control this enterprise-wide.

This can be done quite easily through the web server. Microsoft discusses how to do this by adding the following custom HTTP header at the web server, apart from the application server running Workbrain:
  • X-UA-Compatible: IE=EmulateIE7
This will force the entire site to be rendered in compatibility view, thereby negating the rendering issues in current versions of Workbrain.

If you want to roll out to a newer version of Internet Explorer before upgrading to the new Workbrain 5.1, do check this out.
